Target times in VHOLUME exist to make you suspicious of the obvious path. Shortcuts and secrets are not cheat codes; they are literacy tests for brutalist space. This guide teaches a method for finding them without claiming unverified magic numbers.
Build a clean base first
If you cannot finish the intended circuit, skips will only confuse you. Complete the progression in the Demo Walkthrough and stabilise bronze comfort from Gold Medals. Shortcuts compress a line you already understand.
How to read the city
Look for:
- Continuous ledges that bypass stair-like routes
- Windows and balconies that imply interior cut-throughs
- Vertical faces you can climb instead of circling
- Geometry that “wastes” space beside the racetrack—often a playground
Press coverage mentions cracked or distinctive concrete as a visual language in parkour games generally; treat unusual textures as invitations to test, not guarantees. Always test at safe speed before integrating a skip into a medal run.
The three-lap method
- Sight lap — walk/slow run, mark suspicious edges.
- Test lap — attempt one candidate skip only.
- Integrate lap — if the skip saves time after mistakes, keep it; if it only works once in ten tries, park it.

Secrets versus shortcuts
A shortcut reduces race time on a known objective. A secret may be a vista, tower climb, or side room that deepens the melancholy mood without helping the clock. Both matter. Robert’s world is about more than splits. Use story & lore to appreciate why empty rooms feel intentional.
Risk management
